I got a new (old) camera for my Birthday (early.) I'm still figuring out the focus and self timer- but this is infinitely better than my phone camera isn't it, even so? The dress I found in a charity shop, and despite a slight rip at the back and the crazy price (£10 in a charity shop!) I adored it at first sight. The high neck is a little bit creepy and a little bit elegant. The colors are perfect at the moment. I'm a little sad so it's cathartic to wear sombre colors- and Autumn is the perfect excuse as well.
I still don't feel confident here, at uni. There isn't the diversity here that London has in people or in their clothing so I don't always feel that I want to stand out. I'm slow to settle in new places with new people so it's a little lonely, and whereas I liked that differentiation through slightly 'wacky' clothing in London where I was at home, with wonderful friends and comfortable, here it just makes me feel worse.
(Doctor Who/Lost in Translation posters.)
I also got a new coat from my parents. It's an ebay special- Jaeger originally, but an old style. I love it though. It's soft and very very warm. It's a greenish grey (hard to see in the pictures, sorry) and rather huge and boxy. It's everything a coat should be.
And lastly here's the dress on its own. I'll work on my photography. Sorry.

I love lost in Translation. Your dress and coat are lovely.
ReplyDeletei can really relate with feeling of a lack of confidence. I'm doing well in school this year but i'm having trouble dealing with ~people~ (lol oops angsty blogger on the loose) Your dress and coat are amazing and beautiful
ReplyDeleteI love your Doctor Who poster!! I'm sure uni will get better soon when you get settled in properly!
ReplyDeleteOur Doctor Who posters match. We are internet friends for a reason.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear you're not settling into uni as well as you'd like, but yay camera! I honestly can't say if it's a better idea to Be Yourself! and wait it out until you find the right group of people, or if it's better to try to blend in and just go with what everyone else is doing (whether that's clothing-wise or socially) until you feel comfortable enough to branch out. I had a pretty hard time settling in when I went to college (you could say I never really settled in), but I think it helps to have things you love on your wall, so good on you. (And I'm not just saying this because I love Doctor Who. I plastered my walls with quotes and pictures and posters, because I was determined that at the very least my room would feel like my own place to be totally comfortable.) Anyway, good luck, and I hope things turn around for you soon.
ReplyDeleteAlso that dress and coat are the perfect colors for right now.
I love these photos and OMG THAT DR WHO POSTER I HAVE IT
ReplyDeletemy friend at camp made a batik version :)
also, i totally relate to the settling in thing. It can be really hard at the beginning but SOON YOU FIGURE IT OUT! I BELIEVE IN YOU!

Yay for grey! A little bit creepy and a little bit elegant is an underrated combo. ;) I hope uni gets better for you. I felt that way when I was at school in NYC as well. It was difficult to find good friends, but the one close friend I ended up making was someone I normally wouldn't have gravitated towards. (Such is the way of the universe, I suppose). Let us know how it goes. :)
ReplyDeletePS - I still have ON hanging on my inspiration shelf. ;)
ReplyDeleteSuper cute dress! I feel like black and grey are the only two colors I ever wear. My sister is a Doctor Who fanatic, I should show her your blog.
